Energisa and the power of Paraiba's culture
For more than 20 years, Energisa has been boosting art, culture and the economy in the state, transforming energy into creativity and artistic expression
Paraíba is a state marked by a unique energy, a reflection of the creative force of its people. From the coast to the hinterland, this energy manifests itself in countless forms, and for 24 years Energisa has been present, promoting cultural events that reflect the best of Paraíba's identity.
Since its creation in 2003, the Energisa Cultural Plant in João Pessoa has been a living example of how energy can be transformed into culture. Located in the region known as Cruz do Peixe and home to the capital's first substation, the Energisa Plant is an excellent example of cultural occupation of the typical industrial warehouses built at the beginning of the 20th century.
A permanent program occupies the Art Galleries, the Vladimir Carvalho Room, the Music Tent, the Usina Café and an outdoor area where festivals and creative fairs are held. Its role in Paraíba's cultural scene attracts a daily audience interested in enjoying shows, concerts, exhibitions, book launches, cinema, theater and many other languages.
In 2023, Usina celebrated its 20th anniversary with a multilingual program that included 87 performances and cultural activities through the Viva Usina Project. From the coast to the hinterland, 40 municipalities took part in the selection process, which totaled more than 740 entries. At the end of the selection process, 87 traditional artists and groups from 12 municipalities took part in the project, bringing representativeness and diversity to the Usina. As well as presenting their productions to the Usina's audience, the artists were paid by the program, with a total of R$ 369,000 in prizes distributed to promote Northeastern culture.
It's an honor to contribute to the development of our state and one of the levers is to invest in and encourage Paraíba's cultural power, strengthening not only regional identity, but also generating income by valuing local art and culture. Usina is a space that fulfills this purpose, where many of Paraíba's cultural strengths are revealed and consolidated," says Márcio Zidan, CEO of Energisa Paraíba.
Present at all the important moments of life in Paraíba, Energisa doesn't just supply energy to move the state, it is also at the people's side in their most significant celebrations. For the 10th consecutive year, the company supported the "Biggest São João in the World" in Campina Grande, and promoted Christmas at the Power Plant, occupying its cultural center with Christmas magic throughout the month of December.
Every year, the "Biggest São João inthe World " in Campina Grande attracts crowds of visitors from all over Brazil to celebrate Northeastern culture. Energisa not only sponsors the event, but also wants to ensure that the power arrives without interruption during the 33 days of festivities. Over the last two years, the lighting systems of the venues hosting the festivities have been renovated, with old bulbs replaced by LED luminaires, which has saved the city money and reduced energy consumption. In addition, the company works with local stallholders to ensure that the electrical installations are balanced and safe.
During the Christmas holidays, the Energisa Cultural Plant hosts the traditional Christmas at the Plant. This event, which completed its tenth edition in 2023, has become a true multicultural festival that enriches João Pessoa's cultural calendar.
Last year, Natal na Usina brought a vibrant program that included 57 artistic attractions, two contests, a photo exhibition, as well as a creative and gastronomy fair. The annual celebration has a significant economic impact on the city, generating around R$2 million and creating job opportunities for 700 cultural professionals.
Combining the strength of Northeastern tradition with the power of innovation, Energisa has gone far beyond supplying electricity, becoming a true partner in the development of Paraíba. Our commitment is to transform energy into cultural, economic and social development, ensuring that Paraíba's culture continues to blaze new trails for many decades to come.
