Minas Gerais

"Surreptitiously penetrate the realm of words / There are the poems waiting to be written," says Carlos Drummond de Andrade, in the poem Procura da poesia. It is by walking through the realm of words that some cultural projects sponsored by Energisa will fill this end of 2023 to follow the company's mission of spreading culture in its most varied expressions.

Great Writers

One of these events is long-standing proof of Energisa's commitment to Brazilian culture. The Great Writers project has been encouraging national literature for over 20 years.

There couldn't be a better place to resume activities than the state of Minas Gerais. Minas is a mountainous word, Drummond would say, mountainous and full of talent and interest in reading. After touring various regions of the state, such as Alto Paranaíba and the Triângulo, it is now the turn of the Zona da Mata region of Minas Gerais to host the project. With free workshops and lectures, the caravan will visit Ubá, Muriaé, Cataguases, Juiz de Fora and Leopoldina.

The program opened at the end of September. The author Fabrício Carpinejar, from Rio Grande do Sul, and Renatta Barbosa, Cataguases' own author, took part in the meetings with the public at the start of the program. Now there will be months of intense cultural activity, mobilizing students, teachers, cultural agents, opinion formers and the community in general, with events that are completely free of charge. With a cultural and educational scope for lovers of literature of all backgrounds and ages, the events will discuss the appreciation of literature with a focus on training readers and writers in the cities of the interior.

The program includes authors who will take part in panel discussions, such as Fabrício Carpinejar, Mauro Ventura, Itamar Vieira Júnior, Luiz Humberto França and Karla Monteiro, as well as others who will offer workshops, such as Roberto D'arte, Geissiane Aguiar and Renatta Barbosa.

These include Itamar Vieira Junior, one of the most acclaimed Brazilian authors of recent years, author of the novels Torto Arado and Salvar o Fogo, winner of the Oceanos Prize, one of the most important awards for Portuguese-language authors. Another renowned author is Fabrício Carpinejar, one of the country's most recognized contemporary writers and a two-time winner of the prestigious Jabuti Prize. He has a diversified production that ranges from chronicle to poetry to the children's genre.

This year, the project has something new: the participation of several academies of letters from the interior of Minas Gerais. Filled with important authors for the local and national contexts, the presence of their members is an unprecedented component of the integration of Great Writers 2023

The project will continue in November on the roads of Minas Gerais. Follow the Grandes Escritores page(@pgescritores), check out the agenda at the end of the article and don't miss out on the energy of these meetings!

Art Education Wagon

The train, which in Manuel Bandeira's poem runs along the tracks with the sound of the verses "Café com pão / café com pão / café com pão", continues through the Zona da Mata Mineira, honoring the region with the Arte Educação Wagon.

This year, the wagon will feature a series of talks on literature by journalist and poet Ronaldo Werneck, as well as five musical workshops, which will be presented by musician Ricardo Itaborahy, from São João Nepomuceno. The musical workshops will feature audiovisual performances of songs by Ary Barroso, Alcir Pires Vermelho and Ataulfo Alves, renowned names in Minas Gerais music from the Zona da Mata. Those who take part will be able to experience a total immersion in the work of these great composers.

What's new is the Digital Platform of the Zona da Mata Mineira Memory Center, a space for access and collective construction of memories and stories. A free collection to create and support research and other narratives, based on the region's archives and intangible heritage.

The platform, which is currently under construction and will be free to access, will initially reveal the history of popular culture in the cities of Leopoldina and Cataguases, where Energisa began its history. The collection will also be open to the public in the Zona da Mata Mineira to donate material about their memories. The materials will be analyzed and, if approved, with the donor's legal authorization, they will be included in the Memory Center's collection. The donated collection will be credited to the donor. The aim is to expand the collection and enhance the history of the region's cities. And a very important piece of information: the platform will also have accessibility in Libras.
